Real estate Eure: Normandy, next door to Paris

By turns modern and picturesque, Eure, like any true Norman, cultivates its difference. And first among its many assets are the fresh vistas its provides, just an hour from the capital.

 Traditional housing

Stone executive homes, brick middle-class dwellings, cottages with sloping roofs thatched with reeds, historical half-timbered homes emblematic of Pont-Audemer and Lyons-la-Forêt: Eure, in and of itself, summarizes all the variety in Norman architecture.

Location

From Paris, autoroute A13 and many railway connections link the department's major districts in one to two hours.

The nearby Rouen and Beauvais airports make it possible to reach various French and European destinations, either directly or with connecting flights in Lyon.

Scenery and activities

Eure, located on the edge of Ile-of-France, is the gateway to all of Normandy and a weekend destination highly prized by Parisians seeking the good life and verdant settings. Escape its highways and beaten paths to explore it on enjoyable walking or cycling tours. The Seine loops across it in a series of nonchalant twists and turns; it's excellent for water sports, and its cliffs await the conquest of rock climbing aficionados.

The department is speckled with great vestiges of a bygone era, telling of a turbulent history, such as the Gisors and Château-Gaillard fortresses, which once shut Normandy off from the rest in the world. The famous Bec-Hellouin abbey, the Vexin hamlets of Normandy, and Claude Monet's garden in Giverny are all peaceful, lovely, places to visit.

With its strategic location, Eure also enjoys great economic vitality. A necessity, given that currently, a third of its inhabitants are under twenty.

Weather

Sheltered from wind and rain, which are concentrated along the English Channel, Eure is the driest department in Normandy. The city of Evreux, for example, has low precipitation, some 650 mm annually. Cool summers, mild winters, and some light frost: the department enjoys a pleasant climate year round, without extremes.

In town

  • Evreux: halfway between Paris and the English Channel and the hub of a dynamic metropolitan area of 80,000 inhabitants, the prefecture of Eure cultivates its identity as a city in the country.
  •  Lyons-la-Forêt: nestled in the heart of a beech grove by the same name, this picturesque village, considered one of the most beautiful in France, surrounds a remarkable medieval covered market. From Saint Louis to Philippe the Fair, the kings of the past enjoyed staying there between two hunting parties.
